Lessons from Social Media Week DC for Professional Services
By Mia Rommel

You probably heard about Social Media Week last week, but maybe you’re not sure how to apply what you learned to your business. Today I’m highlighting the major lessons Hinge took away from Social Media Week. You may also want to review our Content Marketing Guide for more ideas.
Last week, the Hinges followed along with the Social Media week activities here in DC (#SMWWDC). Whether you’re social media savvy, or just dipping your toe into the Twitter/Facebook/Google+/Instagram/Pinterest waters, you have to admit that when a method of communication and networking gets its own week – globally – it’s here to stay.
One of the most incredible things I witnessed during #SMWWDC was how fluid and flexible each of these social media channels and tools have become. There were presentations on urban applications for Washingtonians who want to monitor traffic, request town cars, or borrow bikes; how museums and non-profits can benefit from a robust social media presence, and why social media platforms without plans are a foolproof way to create a public relations crisis.
Here are the big ideas from SMWWDC and how you can apply them in your professional services firm.

Pros and Cons of Social Media Automation for Professional Services

One thing is definite: social media is here to stay for professional services firms. Moreover, social media is now a solid part of 2013 marketing plans and budgets. You can look to our Marketing Planning Guide for tips on your overall strategy.
It is close to impossible to be on all platforms at all times. The good news is that now you don’t need to be! Social media automation allows you to schedule posts and updates to all your platforms, instead of manually posting each individually.
Sounds great, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, some have been grossly abusing automation, creating spam, annoying the rest of us and disregarding the true meaning of social media altogether. This post will help you shine some light on the pros and cons of automation and avoid common mistakes.
