Facebook vs. LinkedIn Smackdown

Two titans of social media are battling it out to win your loyalty and business. Do you side with the much larger Facebook to maximize your reach? Or do you target the smaller, more business oriented LinkedIn?

This infographic lays out the relative success enjoyed by B2B and B2C firms in terms of closing sales. Which contender is your best pick? Start by asking yourself these questions:

  • Who is your target audience and where do you want to have the biggest impact?
  • Which site fits your firm better?
  • Where do you feel more comfortable?
  • Where does it make most sense to invest your time and energy?

cool! I’ve always thought LinkedIn was better for business but maybe I need to give Facebook a little more attention.

Rugby Medical Equipment

In the medical equipment space, it’s kinda B2B but also B2C - if you can call a doctor buying a $45k ultrasound machine a consumer.
I personally use both, but feel more comfortable with FB as it’s more fun and friendly, and I’m there all the time anyway. It’s also easier to share rich media on FB than on Linkedin and that’s part of how marketing is done on these sites.
I can see myself using Linkedin more to reach out to doctors or clinics thru my personal contacts, getting introduced and then pitching them. I doubt I’d use inmails though.
In short, I think both are needed.

I agree with you Rugby.  I think it’s hard to pick a winner here because it’s got to be a case by case basis.  Depending on your goals (lead gen? visibility? brand monitoring?) and your target audience, each platform can be useful.

It is interesting how the the different social media platforms draw different audiences for different purposes. Often a smaller audience that is more focused produces a larger result.

Social Media Management Services

I am leaning towards LinkedIn currently as the noise seems to be much less, and the contacts I have made have been positive.
